JAMES M. WHITTEMORE, ESQ., Principal
James M. Whittemore hails from Cohasset, Massachusetts and has been a Maine resident for many years. He is a graduate of Milton Academy, and received his BA, cum laude, from Harvard University. He attended Boston University Law School, and received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Maine School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the State and Federal courts in Maine.
A veteran law practitioner and seasoned trial attorney, Mr. Whittemore brings 25 years of trusted experience serving Maine's communities, families and businesses. Prior to his practice as an attorney, he was a founding partner of South Face Building & Design in Bath. He began his law career with Amerling & Burns in Portland, Maine, and later developed a large, general practice as a principal with Ranger, Copeland, Whittemore, PA on Federal Street, in Brunswick. In 2006, he opened a private practice in Brunswick, expanding Mediation & Arbitration services.
Mr. Whittemore is an active member of the Maine Bar Association, the Bath-Brunswick Bar Association, of which he is a former President, the Cumberland County Bar Association and the Maine Association of Mediators. He is a founding member/attorney of KidsFirst of Maine, being part of an inaugral group of legal and mental health professionals that collaborated to bring the organization to its formal inception in 1995. He is a member of the Downtown Brunswick Association, a board member of AMS Title Company, distributer for The Alfred M. Senter Fund, a former vestry chair of Grace Episcopal Church in Bath, and former board member of the Orrs-Bailey Yacht Club in Harpswell. For many years he was an active partcipant with the Oratorio Chorale.
Mr. Whittemore is a consummate history scholar, literature and music enthusiast. He resides in MidCoast Maine with his wife, Kate Beck, and their two English setters. They enjoy gardening, sailing and sharing family time with their four children, and grandchildren.
